Rio de Janeiro

 After a very long day - I left Canberra at 9am on Tuesday 26 March and arrived in Rio at 7:15pm on Tuesday 26 March after traveling 13,415.76km (not including the trip from the airport to the hotel another 26.3km. 

The Novatel is a block from Copacabana Beach and is ideally situated for walking, swimming, and enjoying the beach cafes. After visiting the rooftop bar with its views along the beach and back toward Sugar Loaf Mountain, I turned in for a good night's rest. The bed was amazing. 

After breakfast I met with my private guide for a Rio city tour. His name was Joao. We had a wonderful time - skipping queues and getting the best viewing spots. Joao made a video of our day. 




On the 27 March, I was in Rio by myself. Planning to catch up with the tour on Thursday 28 March in Paraty. I loved this day and here are some of my favorite photos.

Just two weeks after I met my husband, Olaf, in January 1985 we took a road trip from Sydney to Mt Kosciusko and talked endlessly about what we wanted to do in our lifetime: kids, jobs, and travel, the conversation ranged far and wide and we eventually wrote down 20 things we wanted to do in our Lifetime. We have revised and rewritten the list many times and I'm pleased to say we have ticked off many places, experiences and feelings that were on each of our lists. South America was on the list as a location to viist and in 2009 we went to Chile (the top half), Argentina, Bolivia and Peru.
